Robin Ridgway is an environmental engineer at Purdue University. She and her husband have owned and operated a boarding facility called Red Gate Stables in Lafayette, Indiana for 23 years where she rides dressage and also is an eventer.
Robin has always been interested in cars and then horse trailers when she purchased the farm. Robin’s mother was a flat rate automotive technician so Robin’s interest in mechanical things as they relate to her horses is a natural fit. Robin is a licensed professional engineer and holds a technical certificate in automotive service from Ivy Tech. She coauthored the Purdue Extension Publication “Understanding the Horse Trailer Rig: Steps for Transporting Horses Safely on the Highway” with Fred Whitford and has given numerous hands on and lecture style presentations about truck and trailer safety and maintenance, including workshops at a trailer dealer in Virginia, at the United States Pony Clubs Annual meeting, and most recently at the 2019 Purdue Veterinary School’s Horseman’s Forum.
Robin will cover topics such as matching a trailer to a tow vehicle, proper hitching, proper inspection and maintenance, and how to prepare for roadside emergencies.
